TEMPLAR BOB’S BEST BOOKS

BARBARIAN ARMIES - SAXONS, VIKINGS, NORMANS

Dan and Susanna Shadrake (color plates by Richard Hook)

Brassey’s History of Uniform Series, Tim Newark, editor (ISBN 1-85733-213-9)

THIS FASCINATING book is a must for a person wanting to do research into weapons, armor and equipment from the time of the Romano-British and the Saxon Flood to the Norman Conquest and leading to the Magna Carta period. The authors are the founding members of a group called Brittannia, an organization that recreates the arms and equipment of Romano-British Arthurian soldiers and their foes in the early Dark Ages.

While the book is rather pricey, (I paid $35.00 for it) it’s crammed full of 150 photos and other illustrations, both color and black-and-white, with exploded views and descriptions, comparative drawings and cross-sections. This book is a reenactor’s dream. A must for your research library!
